ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH

The poster seen in the background on the window was painted by Jacob H. Perskie, a noted photographer and painter who captured Franklin D. Roosevelt in both his 1932 and 1936 campaigns. FDR later referred to the artist as a 'faithful friend' following Perskie's passing in 1941. Perskie's son, Leon, continued in his father's footsteps and captured the president's 1944 campaign portrait. Perskie Senior's 1936 portrait was featured in A GALLANT LEADER poster printed by the Sweeney Litho Co. during the 1936 campaign. The address, 38th Street and 7th Avenue, is located in Manhattan's Garment District, once one of the world's epicenters of fabric suppliers and producers– Jordan J. Lloyd
