Prints by Joshua Barrett
Joshua Barrett is a British visual historian based in Cornwall. While his initial ventures into the art of colourising began in 2014 the roots leading to this point go back years prior. These roots include a long-standing enthusiasm for history as well as a wide and varied professional education in the arts, including - but not limited to - photography and colour theory, which Josh utilises to his advantage in order to create realistic and sympathetic colourisations. Joshua believes in the power of colourisation to close the decades - sometimes century - wide gap between the modern viewer and the historic subjects. His personal preference for subject matter tends to focus on the everyman and day-to-day of the past rather than landmark historical events and his passion for portraiture a human connection is evident in his output. Larger projects to date have tended towards more special interest and locally focused subject matters. Some of his clients include: The A1 and The P2 Locomotive Trusts respectfully, Kresen Kernow (The Cornish Records Office) and Trebah Garden.
