"William Barksdale (1821 – 1863) was a lawyer, US Representative and Confederate States Army General from Tennessee. Following a law degree in Mississippi, Barksdale's military career began in the Mexican-American War between 1846 – 1848.

During the American Civil War of 1861 – 1865, Barksdale served in no fewer than eight major battles as a Brigadier General for the Confederate States Army until his mortal wounding at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863.

Further coverage of the first Battle of Fredericksburg with eye witness accounts can be found on Unseen Histories.
